Discussion: Identified as a separate unit of mortar in relation to bricks in wall F2183.

Excavated with trowel and opinel knife. 

Consistency: mortar is strong but break easily (especially in contact with the bricks) 

Colour: dark grey 

Texture: silty 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: very numerous inclusions, all very small (flecks) : ash and charcoal, clay aggregates, fragments of bricks 

Post-depositional Features: burrows going though the wall 

Basal Boundary: very sharp, constructional : foundation bricks layer 31406
