Unit 2242
Category: layer dug in 1997
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Pit fill
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: In the sketch, there is a border line of a possible cut into unit 2230. The fill contained black dirt that was interlanced with white striations and yellow and orange blubs of building debris. It contained charcoal bits at the extent of less then 5%. This looks similar to other deposits that are on the same height in units on the other side of the excavation area-possible midden debris. The unit is temporarily finished at the border with yellowish sandy, more concrete, bottom (compact earth). It is hard to tell what this is that looked as different fill represents. This is maybe influenced by the later historical grave above this area.

Unit description: A small unit with no diagnostics at all from the dry sieve, and just two from the 4mm. Dry sieve material consists of a few 03 and 07 size long bone and rib fragments, and indeterminates. A few are burnt black, and one calcined. Surface condition is fair - stage 3, and fragment sizes are some 3cms but with a couple of bigger pieces of 5 and 6 cm. 4mm sample 1 has a similar range, with a sheep/goat size distal femur and sheep/goat phalanx 2, digested, and an 03 sesamoid. There are also 03 skull frags and a sheep/goat horn core fragment. Lots of indeterminates. If this is pit fill as the unit sheet describes, it seems that very scrappy material went into the pit, probably consumption/processing debris from various sources, that had not been hanging around on the surface for long, and was quickly covered.Figurine Records: No GroundStone Records: No Heavy Residue Records: No Microfaunal Records: No
