Unit 2244
Category: Skeleton dug in 1997
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: skeleton
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: This skeleton was in poor condition and many of the bones disintegrated upon removal. The left arm bones and mandible were in particularly poor shape. We left the lower legs and feet in place because they are partially cut off by the baulk. We'll try to leave them in until we can remove them without damaging them more than necessary.
We cut through the baulk to get to the lower legs and feet and found the left foot in fairly good condition (most of the bones seem to be present), while the right foot bones are out of place and muddled.
X and Y of Targets: Target A - X: 1030.95; Target A - Y: 1148.05; Target B - X: 1031.3; Target B - Y: 1148; Target C - X: 0; Target C - Y: 0; Target D - X: 0; Target D - Y: 0
Body: This is an extended, supine skeleton lying roughly east-west (head to west), although the feet angle slightly south. This burial is slightly angled compared to the other graves.
Head: The head is slumped down and forward, facing slightly to the left (north).
Right Arm: The right arm is straight along the side, with the hand resting on the pelvis. Most hand bones are missing as is the upper arm.
Left Arm: The left arm is straight at the side with the hand lying next o the pelvis
Right Leg: The right leg is straight and complete but the foot is cut off by the baulk to the east
Left Leg: The left leg is like the right leg
Other comments: The skeleton is fairly weathered - many of the bones will deteriorate upon removal. The left patella is partially present and the right is wholly present
