Discussion: This unit consists of 7 courses of very burnt mud brick in the shape of a column. The rest of B. 1 was excavated in the 1990s, and this column was left for the benefit of tourists coming to visit Çatalhöyük so they could easily understand how buildings were constructed on top of one another. It was excavated by trowel, which was easy to do because of the ancient burning and the more recent lengthy exposure. 

Consistency: extremely compact but dry & crumbly 

Colour: orange/red- burnt at top 

Texture: mud brick 

Bedding: layered (with mortar u. 22612) 

Inclusions: none 

Post-depositional Features: burning, has been exposed for many years since excavation of B. 1 in 1990s 

Basal Boundary: clear- laid with mortar u. 22612, comes down on walls of B. 5
