Discussion: This unit represents the mortar applied in the construction of this wall which was constructed on top of B. 5. It is very sandy in content, and is burned near the top (hence the orange color). It has been exposed since the excavation of B. 1 in the 1990s, at which time it was left for the benefit of tourists coming to Çatalhöyük who might not otherwise understand how buildings were constructed on top of one another. 

Consistency: Extremely compact 

Colour: Light orange-brown at top, grey at bottom 

Texture: sandy mortar 

Bedding: layered with u. 22610 (mud-brick) 

Inclusions: none 

Post-depositional Features: burning, exposure since initial excavation of B. 1 in 1990s 

Basal Boundary: clear, layered with mud-brick u. 22617 & comes down on walls of B. 5
