Discussion: This unit represents a solid block of makeup put on the bench F. 7966, ostensibly to even it out. Discovering and excavating this feature revealed a great deal about how the bench was constructed. Initially, it seems, a brick was placed in front of the post set into the E wall F. 7712, then a layer of makeup was laid down extending out from this brick and plastered. This brick (u. 22694) was set on top of that lower bench layer, creating a gradual step down from the brick to the east. This unit was excavated by brush and trowel; excavating it revealed the earliest plastering of the bench (u. 22695).
