Unit 22849

Category: Arbitrary Layer    dug in 2015

Area: GDN

Data Category Information: none

Discussion: This unit was defined in the NE corner of GDN 2015 trench. It was excavated within a framework of a research aiming at examinig the outlines of and the relationships between buildings of the upper levels exposed during the 1960s. Excavation seasons as well as the TP excavations in 2005-08.
The layer consisted of top soil which covered a steep slope (towards SW) built of late Neolithic constructional remains. The slope showed signs of strong erosion due to its exposure to natural conditions (heat, water, wind). The layer was mostly soft and varied in colour and texture. In the middle of the layer (970.77/995.77/1017.10) a cluster of human and animal bones was found, possibly placed there by erosion or by rodents - a huge rodent hole was adjacing the cluster. The units placed directly underneath the top soil were: wall remains (22862), infill (22863), infill (22866) as well as the N wall of Building 81 annex.
