Unit 22866

Category: Layer    dug in 2015

Area: GDN

Interpretive Categories: fill,midden

Data Category Information: Location: between walls

Discussion: This was an infill layer defined in the NE corner of the GDN 2015 trench. Its substantial part was placed directly underneath topsoil (22849). It is highly possible, but due to severe erosion not 100% certain, that wall ss864/5 was partly placed on top of this infill. The infill that was explored in 2015 was limited by the B. 81 annex W, N and E walls. Nevertheless, it is very probable that the deposition episode was the same one as the one that resulted in creation of infill no 22887 deposited on the other side of the E wall of B. 81 annex.
The infill 22866 varied in colour and was partly built of dumped/accummulated constructional material (clay, mudbrick, mortar, plaster). It was placed on top of a rather thin layer of ash (22870) that separated it from an infill of a similar structure (22871).
MZB2017: There were human remains found within the infill (x2). It turned out to be an infant skeleton. In 2017 a new unit number was assigned 23500 to group these remains.
