Unit 22871
Category: Layer dug in 2015
Area: GDN
Interpretive Categories: room fill
Data Category Information: Location: building; Deposition: heterogeneous
Discussion: This was an infill layer defined in NE corner of GDN 2015 trench. It was limited by N, E and W walls of the B. 81 annex. This layer was very similar to another infill (u. 22866) in its structure and consisted of massive deposit with some constructional materials (clay, mortar, mudbrick, fragments of plaster). Basal boundary of 22871 was defined arbitrary after four bin structures were identified underneath it. Although the bin infills did not differ in their visual characteristics from 22871, they were explored with different unit number (from W to E: 22895, 22889, 22883, 22888). Three significant bones were discovered on the 22871 basal boundary level: femur, horn core and cattle cranium. They were interpreted as deposited intentionally on the bins' fills.
