Unit 23084
Category: Layer dug in 2017
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: packing
Data Category Information: Location: building; Deposition: heterogeneous
Discussion: (23084) is a 'blocked' unit comprised of multiple layers of packing and activity debris, unevenly distributed throughout Sp.504, prior to the contruction of B.131. We had just begun to define these various layers stratigraphically when instruction came down from on high to mattock the lot down to an arbitrary level below the posthole bases. We modified this directive by setting collapsed wall (23134), which underlies most of the deposits subsumed by (23084), as our destination level to regain stratigraphic control, and by digging firespots (23027) hastily but by trowel in order to roughly understand them (see US 23027). Otherwise, we mattocked.
Included in the blocked unit (23084) are: loose rubble and brown silt-clay in the upper E of the space that respects the base of wall F.7708; packed yellow-orange rubble running below F.7708, above (23134), and equivalent to (23090) to the east; ash spreads in the W of the space; redeposited midden seemingly dumped in the NW corner and south central part of the space; a harder, greyer rubble area in the SW of the space; and below much of this interleaving layers of rubble, ash, and brown-black charcoal-rich laminations.

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
X Finds Material: nothing recorded
Finds Material Stored: nothing recorded
