Unit 23235
Category: Layer dug in 2017
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Burial Fill
Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: burial; Deposition: heterogeneous
Discussion: Layer partially visible after remove the earliest floor/make up (U21895) of B-17, but clearly defined after remove the floor U23203 and exposed the midden U23227. The layer was distinct by the presence of clay, remains of plaster and other building materials that defined an oval shape deposit, completely different for the rest of the greyish loose midden around.
The upper part of this layer was sealing the burial F8452, once the first bones of the skeleton were exposed, the layer change the composition, becoming more grey and loose. Around the edges of this deposit and the skeleton we defined a thin orchard layer, 1-2 mm thick that extended also below the bones. The whole skeleton was full of this pigment, so we don’t know if they placed a kind of base of this pigment in the bottom of the cut, and then they placed the body, or the process was backwards, they place the body and covered with orchard, and what we found was the natural deposition through the body decomposition.
