Description: U23486 refers to the mortar of Wall blocking F7774. 

Discussion: Mortar U23486 of Wall blocking F7774 was made of a mixture of ash and mud. It was placed in between the brick both horizontally and vertically. U 23486 was severely burnt at the upper western side of the blocking. U23486 mortar seemed to merge with the brick above, but it was very easy to excavate it from the brick below.

Colour: Light grey 

Texture: Sand 

Bedding: Massive 

Inclusions: low percentage of flecks of charcoal 

Post-depositional Features: Compaction, burning, exposure to the elements of the 'North Shelter' 

Basal Boundary: Constructional, very sharp, prominent, smooth, flat and even
