Unit 2387
Category: layer dug in 1997
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: redeposited
Data Category Information: Description: animal burrow
Dimensions: 0.26 N-S x 0.18 m E-W x 30 mm thick
Discussion: A small deposit full of flakes of bone - similar to horn core in situ, and therefore probably the same. The deposit was weak in structure with a clear basal boundary. It appeared to be a pocket of redeposited so8il possibly by animal action. The horn core in the wall has been used as an animal run, consequently only the shell survives. The question if whether this was done in antiquity as the house came to the end of its life or whether this is a post Mellaart event, after he'd completed his excavation. If so he must have seen this horn unless subsequent erosion exposed it and it was then too much of a temptation for the burrowing moles.
The plan shows the void this deposit filled as opposed to the extent of the fill. Dry Sieve Information: Not dry sieved but may have hand picked finds
