Unit 2531

Category: layer    dug in 1997

Area: North

Interpretive Categories: inter-building fill

Data Category Information: Location: between walls; Deposition: heterogeneous

Dimensions: 1.80 x 0.85 x 0.80 m

Discussion: The unit is the half-part of the Space 73 as excavated. The deposit is sloping down towards N. The soil is very clayish and thus very compact (hard to dig up by trowel). A small course of wall was built on this fill. The fill consists of 3 layers of dump. The top course is clayish material mixed with ash. Second layer is more brown that resembles mud. The lowest course is the thickest which is hard, dark brown, clay material. A thick fragment of plaster can be seen in the lowest fill. However, the second mud-like dump contains many bone fragments with a cranium fragment.

GML 15.9: This discussion describes the general section at the N end - in it there are 3 layers; the top 2 were probably excavated last year and only the last is 2531 (& 2519)
