Interpretive Categories: Architectural Cut,Rubbish Pit Cut

Data Category Information: Description: posthole

Dimensions: 0.78 m diameter / 0.3 m deep

Discussion: It is not clear what this pit is for. But the north-eastern side of the pit is flat so it could be a post hole. It is not going in the wall, but the wall is sloping towards it so the post might as been sloping as well.

This cut was recognized as being the same as pit 2737/2738 dug in 1997. It was not fully excavated then.

Its location against the east wall possibly matches the location of a post on Mellaart's plans and mirrors one to the west (F 275) and therefore interpreted as a removal pit. Problem is that as F 275 also these were not picked up cutting floors which would conform to the interpretation, however bearing in mind that most of this activity had been excavated by Mellaart and therefore heavily disturbed and eroded, we may well have missed the relationship of this cut.
