Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: feature; Description: hearth; Deposition: homogeneous

Discussion: placed within the rectangular space denoted as a 'cut': 30088 Deposit 30057 respected the rectangular outline of this space whilst creating a circular interior line within which was placed the linings of later phases of use of the hearth F7957. Initially Deposit 30080 (the base of the hearth) was thought respect the line of these linings and also upon excavation 30057 itself. Therefore, the interpretation of 30057 changed from one of it being the 'superstructure' of the hearth in its entirety to it being a lining itself sitting within this cut 30088. However, excavation showed that it overlay 30080 and actually was a part of the rebuilding of the eastern wall of 30088. Thus, 30057 was again considered to be an element of the superstructure of the hearth F7957, though not the original Hearth but a repaired and reused later phase.
