Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: between walls

 

Discussion: This unit could be a part of a fire installation that was truncated during the Neolithic. The layer was clearly burnt but it did not actually have a specific surface. Perhaps the surface was truncated during the Neolithic as well. It was clearly distinct from the rest of the units surrounding it with regards to its colour and texture. The unit itself abutts the southern wall. 

 

Consistency: loose 

Colour: dark greyish brown 

Texture: sandy clay loam 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: clay aggregates, occasional charcoal 

Post-depositional Features: animal and insect burrowing 

Basal Boundary: sharp
