Unit 30700
Category: Layer dug in 2013

Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: wall/blocking; Material: brick; Deposition: heterogeneous
Discussion: This unit was seen in plan very early in the 2013 season, as we removed u.20271. It soon became clear that these mud-bricks were laid directly into the terracing/foundation cut [30229] so we proceeded to excavate the interior of the building, then removed these walls. It soon became obvious that these bricks were not stacked or laid systematiclaly or predictably into an even cut, but rather placed somewhat haphazardly into an extremely jagged one, a bit like u.30299. Therefore, we may have surpassed the true basal boundary of this unit while excavating with mattock, but have done our best to reveal where the orange mud-brick material remains.
