Unit 30870

Category: Layer    dug in 2013

Area: TPC

Interpretive Categories: part of midden

Data Category Information: Location: external

Discussion: This is a part of midden layer in the SW corner of Trench 2. Two fragments of the same midden were excavated earlier (u.30773, u.30774). The lower section was recorded as u.30823 but were not excavated now (2013). A microgeomorhological sample was taken from the latter unit.

The stratigraphical position of the midden is unclear. It is located above B. 121, which means it postdates this structure. No relations with other buildings have been established to date. This is due to large truncations that destroyed an original sequence, probably including also other Neolithic buildings.

The midden is made of a number of thin, superimposed layers. These were part of a relatively firm silty clay mixed with light gray friable soil. The unit contained many clay spots and bigger/smaller clay fragments. A few clay objects were found inside as well as animal bones, ground stones and pottery. Additionally, a couple of x-finds, including clay objects and obsidian projectile point, were also found.
