Unit 31142

Category: Layer    dug in 2013

Area: Trench 5

Interpretive Categories: floor,plaster

Data Category Information: Location: building

Discussion: This unit is the surface of B 106 that was under byzantine fill 16933. It is a white plaster layer that is on the west sloping up and connecting to wall F 5058, thus making it a floor or a basin, depending if the concave shape is original or not. It is above antother plaster 31174 (separated through fill 31175) and below a plaster 31157 (fill= 31156). All plasters are sloping up above a "hill" of fill / a construction, that is in the west part of B 107. The connection to the wall is made through a concave sunk (4 cm length) and then the plaster goes up to the wall for 4 cm (see sketch). The sunken little concave part is filled with 31173 and then covered by plaster patch 31172. On the buildings surface, 31142 is sloping down towards north, thus giving a concave form to the surface. All layers under it seem to follow the same shape, though only 31194 is present on the "hill". The northern limit is our artificial west-east section in the middle of the room.

Replaces former unit number 16932 for the excavated part)
