Discussion: (3119) represents a layer of rich, mixed in-fill, which seems to have been deposited at various stages in the construction of the first three courses of N-S running wall [56]. It contained a lot of charcoal and larger bone pieces. X1 was a deposit of scapula which appeared to be pushed into a horn core and laid in between two bricks (3120). It is hard to imagine that this was accidental, and it may be that it was some sort of deliberate deposit to mark the construction of these new walls. Similar practices have been observed elsewhere on the site. An attempt was made to consolidate the horn, but as it was bonded to the brick and in-fill materials surrounding it (3120 and 3119), as these cracked, so id did, and eventually it was removed in several pieces 

Recognition: Clear colour and textual difference - very rich and ashy 

Definition: The boundaried with the surrounding material were clear 

Execution: Trowel and mattock 

Condition: Dry 

Consistency: Fairly friable 

Colour: 10 YR 5/2 Greyish brown 

Texture: Ashy silt 

Bedding: Massive 

Inclusions: 8% charcoal (flecks and small and medium sized pieces); 5% bone (small and largish pieces); 2% plant silicates; <2% plasterflecks; <2% clay flecks; occasional hackberries 

Post-depositional Features: Salt encrustation and animal burrowing 

Basal Boundary: The basal boundary was hard to distinguish as the material beneath was very similar in consistency, although slightly more mixed in its composition. The interface was indistinct so it is hard to describe.
