Description: U31418 was patches of black-burnt, plastered floor, surviving from previous excavations and season-2017 sweeping, at the top of Platform F7638, along with underlying burnt soil which could have been U22285, i.e. burnt floor infill. U22284 was not recognised in 2017. All of these unit numbers could be considered the same, top-most layer at Platform F7638, as this had become after years of exposure and season's-2017 scraping and sweeping prior to excavating. U31418 covered only about half of the platform's width at each eastern side.

Discussion: U31418 was without doubt constructional material (plastered floor and infill) set on fire. Both the surviving patches of the plastered floor and the surviving infill were absolutely black, having come into direct contact with fire and persistant burning.
U31418 goes up against Wall F.7766, and covers, along with other surfcaces below it, U22293 of Wall F7767.
In the West U31418 was 1 to 2 cm thick; it became thicker in the East and far more burnt, up to 4-5cm. Traces of burning could be noticed at the entire area of U31418, but they were more prominent on the eastern part. Three layers could be distinguished within the burnt material: burnt: black; then very dark brown evidently burnt, and then dark yellow below with traces of fire. The floor below was also burnt.
