Unit 31610
Category: Layer dug in 2015
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: mortar
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: wall/blocking; Material: mortar; Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: Heavily eroded mortar of F8011 E wall of Sp 565, due to being exposed for a very long time it is very hard to distinguish this Unit from the bricks (U31609). The mortar seems to be ca. 6 cm thick. Only the part of unit was excavated due to Sp565 being excavated only partially. The rest of it is visible in the section.
The wall was partially excavated in the previous year, and at that time they thought that it had removed the entire wall. This year we confirmed that the wall actually continued further down at the level exposed last year (31614), at which point it had been excavated. So in this season we expose the rest of the wall F8011. Since we didn’t remove the plaster from the inside we cannot add more information from what was described before. Anyway we remove a mortar course U22350 that give us a bit more information from the characteristics (see this unit). (30.05.2016-- CB)
