Category: layer dug in 1998
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: part of build of oven, rendering of oven
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: feature; Description: oven; Material: pise-like; Deposition: homogeneous
Dimensions: 0.42 m E-W x 0.26 m N-S x 2-3 mm thick max.
Discussion: Very small phytolith rich layer above oven entrance seems to be a layer between various layers of plaster rendering. There seems to lots of chaff in it, is it dung? Had to be 100% archive sampled except for very small parts left in section for micromorphology sample, but very thin when it gets to section <1 mm. Covers join between oven 268 and additional walls of 256 (3353) so has been deposited after F.268 has been remodelled.
Recognition: Seen as mid brown layer with phytoliths after (3162) removed. Also (3162) natural wanted to break off along interface.
Definition: Small patch situated above oven 268 entrance. Continues into temporary section left for micromorphology to W. Ends at edge of oven wall.
Execution: Leaf.

Consistency: firm
Colour: 10 YR 4/4 dark yellowish brown with white flecks
