Unit 32126
Category: Layer dug in 2017
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: fire spot
Data Category Information: Description: fire spots (non-structured); Deposition: heterogeneous
Discussion: Relatively small and regular firespot located in grid 11, this layer contained large charcoal fragments and visible phytolith inclusions. It was sealed by a clay surface and sealed a similar clay surface. In line with priority feedback (below), it seemed that this firespot consists of multiple burning events but was not very trampled given the high preservation of materials.
Priority feedback synthesis:
Relatively high density with well-preserved materials. Chipped stone contained mostly tool fragments and some retouched flakes. Archaeobot materials consisted of badly preserved grains. Anthracological analysis points to use of various wood fuels, again pointing to the possibility of several burning events being contained within the firespot.
Consistency: loose
Colour: dark gray to black
Texture: sandy clay
Bedding: layered
Inclusions: 50% organic and plant remains, artefactual inclusions (chipped stone, animal bone, clay objects) 5%
Post-depositional Features: n/a
Basal Boundary: anthropogenic, clear but irregular due to scorching and slope towards southeast.

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
X Finds Material: nothing recorded
