Unit 32327
Category: Layer dug in 2016
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: floor
Data Category Information: Location: building; Description: general; Material: dark grey clay; Deposition: composite (floors/bedding/plaster/packing/occupation); Basal Spit: unpainted
Discussion: an early horizon associated with a commensurately early use/construction of Hearth F7957 with elements of F7957 (30080 and 32343) sitting upon this context which itself was sealing the clay elements of the eastern wall of 7957 (32338). The presence of 30094 (possible remnants of early use horizons at the entrance to B131) suggests that there may have been repeated re-laying /repair of surfaces in this area or to the eastern edge iof F7957. Either way this repeated use/re-use had eroded the eastern edge of 32327.
A laminated deposit 32327 was seen to be the same as 32337 and excavated as a composite layer. There was no levelling or 'make-up' deposits associated with either this context.
Initially thought to lie over 32337 further investigastion of the stratigraphic relationships between 32337, 32327, 30080 and 32338 showed that 32337 and 32327 were in fact the same in terms of consistency, compaction and texture. Their relative stratigraphic positions also meant that they were both a part of an event of resurfacing/repair to the entrance area of B131. Therefore, it was possible to combine these units and excavate them as a composite layer without losing any interpretive information.

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
