Dimensions: 28 x 12 cm, 1.5 cm thick max (at W end) 

 

Discussion: Part of F.279, constructional layer. 

 

Recognition: Plastery outer layer of F.279. Recognised during exc. of (3300) of which I thought it was a part until it became clear the two were separated by a thin layer of grey-brown soil (3304). 

Definition: Defined during ecvanation at the edges, as mulitple layers make it all unclear. 

Execution: Leaf trowel. 

Condition: Sheltered. 

Consistency: soft to friable 

Colour: 2.5 Y 8/2 pale yellow 

Texture: clay, medium crumb to powder 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: no 

Post-depositional Features: occasional fine roots, erosion 

Basal Boundary: clear/anthropogenic/sloping/curved
