Unit 3318
Category: layer dug in 1998
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Brick and Mortar
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: wall/blocking; Material: brick&mortar; Deposition: heterogeneous
Dimensions: 0.67 x 0.46 x 0.15 m
Description: See 3307 and 3317.
Discussion: 3318 represents the mixture of brick and mortar from wall 58 that was dry sieved. Again the mortar layers were unusually thick, they also slipped beneath the brick of wall 278 to the East, suggesting that this was inserted into wall 58 between the construction of the lower courses of wall 58and its upper courses. This suggests that the layer 3319 that was removed above 3318 could actually have been a bit of mortar from wall 278 that had lipped over the lower part of wall 58.
