Unit 3325
Category: layer dug in 1998
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: multiple floor and wall plaster
Data Category Information: Location: building; Description: general; Material: white clay; Deposition: multiple
Dimensions: 1.65 x 0.16 m, 0.17 m thick
Discussion: Partially excavated in 1997, multiple + continuous wall and floor plaster at base of E wall of space 112. Inset at an acute angle, probably due to the unchanging of E wall. Jonathan (Last) questioned these thick floor and wall plasters as remnants of a platform. As most was excavated by Mellaart we no longer have that evidence but it is a possibility, however, it is also true that the corner wall junctions are areas of good wall/floor plaster survival.
Recognition: finely layered cream plaster + varying shades of mid-brown inter floor packing tipping E towards wall + contiguous to wall face
Definition: up to wall face to E
Execution: trowel from edge
Condition: flaky at top and edges but moist and very clayey in middle
Consistency: moderately strong
Colour: compund layered of 2.5 Y 7/3 pale yellow, 2.5 Y 5/2 greyish brown
Texture: line of silt (40:60)
Bedding: compund layered of similar deposits, plaster 4 mm, packing c. 3 mm
Inclusions: 2% small fragments and flecks of salt, 1% small fragments orange clay, 5% unorientated small fragments of phytoliths
Post-depositional Features: 2 % tiny roots
Basal Boundary: clear anthropogenic, sharply inclined towards wall to E + vertical against wall face
