Description: Layer description = sample1/sample 2
Discussion: This seemed like bricky dump but was always confusing from the upper surface, divisions to W> Small rectangular, orange-brown and grey brickettes was visible. In the N elevation they can be seen in diagonal layers sloping down to E. In S elevation a grey brickette seems to run N-S beneath white plaster (3339), which has always jutted out to S. There has been a problem of stratigraphy in that everything is circular and the damaged state of the moulding makes it impossible to know where it stops and starts. (3350) seemed impossible to be a dump over, under and around it, consistent with F.279's position as an out-of-situ moulding in room fill. However, on the N side it looked as tho' it could be part of the interior of the moulding and excavation makes this seem more likely. Still not clearly understood.
It was taken out as an arbitrary layer but this didn't help- also same remains lower down, dealt with as (3953), part of which is still in the ground for next year and which may be a bin wall.
Recognition: Mixed dump of material around W end of F.279. Clear bricky and mixed material incl. some charcoal, some orange areas, around plaster layers and moulding.
