Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: feature; Description: oven; Material: pise-like; Deposition: homogeneous
Dimensions: 0.40 m E-W x 0.20-0.30 m N-S x 0.01 m depth
Discussion: Unit (3384) is a layer in oven F.252, partially recognisable by a smaltering of clayball fragments. This layer is possibly part of the oven, though it could alternatively be an occupational deposit in the same way that (3381) might be. The presence of so many clayball fragments might indicate that this deposit occured during the lifetime of the oven, if we accept one possible hypothesis that clay balls were used as warmers for food/water etc.
Recognition: Visible layer above a possible oven floor, visible after removal of (3381), + lots of clayball.
Definition: Clear N-S, diffuse towards E edge of oven.
Execution: Trowel.

Colour: 10 YR 4/4 dark yellowish brown
Texture: silty + ashy
Bedding: massive
Inclusions: clayball 10%, charcoal + ash 5%
Post-depositional Features: n/a
Basal Boundary: abrupt/distinct, though more diffuse to SE slightly uneven and pitted in parts, mainly due to clayball fragments
