Unit 3390
Category: layer dug in 1998
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: floor,oven structure
Data Category Information: In Situ: non in-situ; Location: feature; Description: oven; Material: pise-like; Deposition: heterogeneous
Dimensions: 0.10 m N-S x 0.60 m E-W, depth:0.01 to 0.03 m (at W end)
Discussion: This may be the base of the original (untruncated) oven. As seen on the sketch plan (on unit sheet) it rests slightly outside the oven cavity per se, but possibly ends is part of a former larger structure. Excavates down onto a plaster/grey layer that seems to possibly link in with the surrounding layers in space 150. It could be a floor layer but (3395) is a better candidate for a floor.
Recognition: Layer visible above a white/grey plastery layer.
Definition: Reasonably clear, but the layer is thin and diffuse in places.
Execution: Trowel.
Condition: Dry.
Consistency: soft to friable
Colour: 10 YR 4/4 dark yellowish brown
Texture: silty
