Dimensions: 0.45 m E-W; 0.45 m N-S; 0.12 m thick
Discussion: Small oval brown clayey silt unit, initially thought may be over a hearth/circular shape, possibly scorching around edges, but on excavation became quickly apparent that relatively deep fill of a small pit (3723) rather than a thin layer. Very homogenous and apparently sterile fill, some left in situ because baulk running across for micromorphology samples.
Recognition: Recognised during cleaning, brown colour, slightly rough surface.
Definition: Clear.
Execution: Trowel.
Condition: Dry. Surface; smooth/flat/slightly inclined to W/sloping up slightly at N and S edges (though smooth according to crib sheet definition slightly rough to touch).
Consistency: friable (powdery)
Colour: 10 YR 5/4 yellowish brown (dry)
Texture: clayey silt
Bedding: massive
Inclusions: n/a
Post-depositional Features: occ. >2% salt flecks >2% fine roots
Basal Boundary: abrupt/distinct/smooth/steeply inclined within cut
