Unit 3801
Category: layer dug in 1998
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: infill
Data Category Information: In Situ: non in-situ; Location: building; Material: brick&mortar; Deposition: heterogeneous
Dimensions: 130 N-S x 190 W-E x 7 cm
Discussion: It was a kind of collapsed building material. It is situated on the NE corner of building 5 and W part of space 155. The layer underlies numerous floor layers which are continued from space 154. Dimensions of the layer was approx. 130 x 150 x 7 cm. Some of the plaster deposition suggested that some sort of other establishment was attached to the E wall of the building, but at the moment it is not clear unless plaster is cleaned, and looked at more closely.
The floors especially, which continued all the way to that area, slightly rise up against partition wall feature.
Recognition: With the density of the plaster aggregates.
Definition: By floor levels, underneath of it.
Execution: Pick axe, trowel, leaf.
Condition: Moist.
Consistency: soft/friable, medium compaction
Colour: 10 YR 5/4 yellowish brown
Texture: clay to silty clay
Bedding: compound layered
Inclusions: brick agg. (<5 cm <5%); plaster (<10 cm 10%); charcoal (<2 cm <2%); obsidian (<1 cm <2%); shell (<3 cm <2%)
Post-depositional Features: salts, roots and human trampling
Basal Boundary: clear/wavy/anthropogenic/

Unit description: This small to medium sized unit is the lower fill above the floor (below fill 3278) in space 155. For dry sieve for this unit: There are 4 pieces of small cattle-sized scapula, the largest of which is cut and scratched by more than one tool. Other pieces are much smaller, and include the carbonized jaw of an infant dog. The weathering is normal, less than 10% is burned, and one piece is digested. Unit represented by >4mm flot sample number 2. Termed 'lower fill above floor' . A small unit, with bone quite battered-looking, and one fragment fairly weathered. Almost none are burnt. Bone is mainly sheep-size, with long bones, rib, verts and a tooth. One 07 size chunk. Contrasts 3278 (upper fill above floor in space 155) in that 3801 is more battered looking.
