Discussion: Fifth layer of floors on platform F239. Labelled layer 5 in graphic 98-639.

Plaster layer, mottled and cracked, the cracking showed as darker areas, possibly coming from the layer above. 

Recognition: Colour change from unit (3878), unit above (3879). 

Definition: Defined by limit of excavation. 

Execution: Leaf trowel and patience. 

Condition: Dry. 

Consistency: compact but friable when crushed 

Colour: 7.5 YR 7/2 pinkish grey 

Texture: ashy clay 

Bedding: layered 

Inclusions: few bits of charcoal 1 mm 1% 

Post-depositional Features: animal hole in SE corner of excavation area 

Basal Boundary: diffuse, contrast fairly visible, surfaces smooth, but cracked in places
