Dimensions: 0.5 x 0.35m excavated, 0.6-0.11 m thick 

 

Discussion: Relatively thick layer of broken up/crushed oven lining. Presumably related to demolition of nearby oven. The layer presumably also partly acted as a levelling/raising deposit. Too early to be FI242 so it indicates the presence of an earlier oven. 

 

Recognition: Vertically different colour/texture, horizontally arbitrary edges. 

Definition: Arbitrary. 

Execution: Partially excavated by trowel. 

Condition: Normal. 

Consistency: soft 

Colour: 10 YR 4/3 brown 

Texture: sandy silt 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: charcoal flecks 5%; small stone/bone fragments 2%; small-medium sized fragments of oven lining frequent 40% 

Post-depositional Features: human trampling, bioturbation, truncation 

Basal Boundary: anthropogenic/distinct/smooth/flat
