Dimensions: 1.16m ( E-W ) by 1.37m ( N-S ) by up to 0.05m thick 

 

Discussion: Area of floor make-up towards eastern side of sp. 163, overlain by further floor make-up 4253 but apparently overlying infilling of lower building. 

 

Recognition: patch of brown material between grey deposits 

Definition: clear edge with surrounding deposits 

Execution: trowel from edges 

Condition: firm and moist 

Consistency: firm 

Colour: mid reddish brown 

Texture: silty clay 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: <5% charcoal flecks 

Post-depositional Features: abundant roots and some insect disturbance 

Basal Boundary: anthropogenic, abrupt, distinct, smooth, flat
