Discussion: Infill is between wall 403 + 401, it ends at the base of wall 403.

Poss. infill post construction of wall 403 hwr in this cut 4336 hwr no way of ascertaining this as could be infill between two walls as found between abutting walls. I feel the former however is more likely as the cut which undercuts wall 401 would have been unstable.SF

So wall 401 (+ 400) were cut (4336) to the south to construct space 160 wall 403 was constructed + 4285 infilled the gap.

14/6 During post-ex. this deposit was identified as probably the same as 4269 (see that sheet) SF 

 

Recognition: Infill inbetween wall 403 + 401. Grey with inclusions - very friable. 

Definition: North-wall 401, east-end of walls -west wall & infill of- sp.163, south-wall 403, west- sp. 159 

Execution: Trowel 

Condition: Good 

Consistency: friable. lots of air pockets - loose. 

Colour: grey brown 

Texture: silty & gritty(sand). Sandy silt loam. 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: charcoal 

Post-depositional Features: salty inclusions, roots, ant holes 

Basal Boundary: boundary with 401- uneven- pits/hollows. distinct & prominent.
