Unit description: Flot Sample 2560 Flot Sample 2555 Flot Sample 2536 [Flot Sample 2911] Priority unit from fill around adult grave Colour is medium brown to grey with a generally small fragment size. Taxa include sheep/goat and a medium size/young dog. A small number of 1 cm bones are slightly burnt. There are a large number of small rodent bones and two fish bones. The fill is indistinguishable from the fill in the surrounding units, except for the large quantity of rodent bones, especially in the 1 and 2 mm fractions. According to the excavators the rodent bones were found in small jumbles around the body. One was identified as an owl pellet due to the patch of orangish soil it was found in. The assemblage is identical to the flot sample for 4325 - the surrounding fill. The fourth sample from this unit was tentatively identified as an owl pellet and will be analyzed with the microfauna. Sample 2 [2911] was analysed in 2000. There is a fair bit of burning (about 1/3 of the asemblage) of both low and high temperature, but no digestion or gnawing. The pieces are battered and not fresh. There is a tiny fragment of vertebral epiphysis from a small animal, a couple of small rib fragments from small animals, and a piece of scapula blade. It looks jumbled and redeposited.
