Discussion: The soil which is excavated overlayed the top of the basket. It can be part of the backfill or can be identified as back due to late discovery of the burial cut. Dimensions of this soil are 32cm by 40cm by 6cm. Elipse shaped, this soil is situated exactly on the top of the lid of the basket. Excavation of this soil also yielded impression of the basket and a baby skeleton. This soil may be related to fill which is situated between the basket and the cut. 

 

Recognition: By eye, identification differentiated colour and during the excavation hit the cut by mattock 

Definition: Clear definition 

Execution: Trowel, leaf trowel, dentist tool 

Condition: Good condition 

Consistency: Soft, friable 

Colour: Greyish brown coloured soil 

Texture: Silty clayey soil 

Bedding: Massive 

Inclusions: Plaster aggregates less than 1cm and less than 5% and very small stones and pebbles less than 1cm and less than 2% 

Post-depositional Features: Burial basket and burial under this fill 

Basal Boundary: Anthropic, burial, clear wavy boundary
