Unit 4499
Category: layer dug in 1999
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Wall collapse?
Data Category Information: Description: 60's
Dimensions: 1.54m. e-w x 0.75m x 0.05m max. depth.
Discussion: (4499) lies immediately south of e - w wall F.482. It's a mixed deposit of wall plaster, and light to mid. brown silty clay. Re-application layers are clearly visible within the plaster. I suspect that it's wall collapse? / demolition? Probably associated with F.482, or whichever wall lay above. Possibly the result of damage caused by Mellart's excavations.
Consistency: Soft to firm. Slightly friable under pressure.
Colour: Off-white to very pale brown / grayish-light to mid. brown.
Texture: Clayey silt (approx. 40/60) lime plaster / silty clay (approx. 40/60).
Bedding: Massive / layered - mixed deposit.
Inclusions: Occ. charcoal flecks <2%. Mod., very small, white, siliceous plant remains. Very occ. small red paint frags.
Post-depositional Features: Truncated at south by Mellart excavation. Occ., modern, small root activity.
Basal Boundary: Abrupt, distinct, smooth to slightly uneven.
