Unit 4503

Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: floor (packing only); Deposition: homogeneous
Dimensions: 1.62 E-W by 0.195 by 0.05m max. depth
Discussion: (4503), as with (4502), appears to be an E-W band of material, in this case, a slightly ashey occupation/ bedding? layer-that has only survived in a strip along the edge of wall F.482. This is probably due to subsidence (now visible toward the E. limit of F.482), which has allowed these layers to survive within a shallow E-W hollow, whilst further south, they have either been worn away or purposefully removed - possibly before the laying of new floor surfaces above.
Toward the E. limit of (4503), the deposit thickened, from an averae 10-30mm, to a 50mm max., where it contained a substantial lens of mid. gray clayey silt (about 0.20m E-W ) . It seemed slightly odd, and out of place, but I presume it is part of the same layer, and not an 'intrusion', particularly as it's texture is very similar.

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
