Unit 4509
Category: Cut dug in 1999
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Crawlhole
Data Category Information: Description: crawlhole
Dimensions: 0.62e-w x 0.35 x 0.47m depth.
Discussion: 4509 - F.530 is a plaster-lined crawlhole, through E-W wall F.482. Recorded as a cut, but the plaster lining is a continuation of the N. and S. face wall plaster, so 4509 is integral to F.482 - part of the original construction. Immediately to the N. and W. of 4509 is a partly revealed, (as yet unumbered), circular feature. This is possibly a bin, which supports the idea that the narrow E-W area - Space 179, N. of F.482, is for storage. In the NE.corner of Space 173, there was also a crawlhole with a bin below, so perhaps this is not an uncommon occurrence?
Shape: Sub-rectangular.
Sides: At E. - almost vertical, and undercutting. S. - straight in central area, slightly concave toward W. and E. limits. W. - vertical at upper half - undercutting and almost vertical toward base.
Base Break: Sharp at, and toward, NW. and SW. limits, otherwise, gradual to imperceptible.
Base: Flat. Slopes very gently W. down to E. Shallow slope.
Orientation: E -W
