Interpretive Categories: bin-base

Data Category Information: Location: feature; Description: bin; Material: occupation; Deposition: multiple

Dimensions: ~80 by 35cm by 7cm

Discussion: This layer comprises many compound layers of plaster and orangey organic material. It looks like in situ layers of base which have been built up through use. This layer below 4805 is of very similar composition and the distinction between them rests mainly on the fact that 4805 is contained within the northern edge of the bin whilst 4794 lay on top. 4794 and 4805 together may span a phase of the bin where its size was expanded and the base extended over the northern arm.

Recognition: Fill in bin 488

Definition: See plan

Execution: Trowel

Condition: Good

Consistency: Variable-firm to soft and brittle

Colour: Variable-mid brown-to grey brown to orange to beige to white

Texture: Silty-clay

Bedding: Layered towards the west-fine plaster layers with material in between

Inclusions: <2% shell, bone obsidian, quite a lot of phytoliths/ impressions of plants

Post-depositional Features: A few roots and salts

Basal Boundary: Similar material underneath generally came off onto layer of plaster which turned out on excavation to be part of a very similar unit.
