Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: feature; Description: hearth; Material: pise-like; Deposition: homogeneous

Discussion: Superstructure of fire installation F502, not completely excavated as extends beyond edge of excavation. Consists of fire-hardened fire installation walls with evidence of minor repair on the western side. Probably oval in shape without any apparent side opening. Possibly therefore a hearth rather than an oven, although heavily truncated to a very low level, which may have removed evidence of any opening.

Definition: Clear structure

Execution: Trowel from south-centre point

Condition: Firm, slightly moist and heavily truncated

Consistency: Firm

Colour: Mid brown, dark brown where burnt or repaired

Texture: Silty clay

Bedding: Massive

Inclusions: <2% charcoal flecks

Post-depositional Features: Some root and insect disturbance

Basal Boundary: Clear, smooth, anthropic
