Unit description: F 165, 166, 168 and 169 subsampled for ZooMS (DCO 2014) A fairly large unit from Space 181. It is part of the same midden as 4824 (above), 4837 and 4838 (below). Colour is light to medium brown, with very few of the darkly stained bones. Taxa include sheep/goat, equid, pig and cattle, but the proportions are unusual with a majority of sheep/goat, but also lots of equid and very little cattle. Feet and teeth are well represented as well as long bone fragments (few identifiable to element), but there is very little of the axial skeleton. Many or the equid phalanges and carpals are unweathered on their articular surface - probably articulated in ground. LM adds (in 2000): There is a large equid mandible fragment with two teeth in (seems like E. hydruntinus) which has number F511, but location is part of cluster X1. Completed: Sample 2, Flot >4mm, 100%, Flot no.2880. Also Flot no.2881. Complete: Sample 3, Flot > 4mm, 100%, Flot no. 2877 More material arrived November 2000 from dry sieve: 3-sized scrap and one O/C sesamoid. Most burnt. [sm] Last Number = F.561Figurine Records: Yes
