Unit description: A large unit from the midden in Space 181. On the whole, quite fragmented, although there are a few large pieces present. Mostly sheep-size animals, but larger mammals represented, as well as microfauna and fish. Plenty of microfauna out of both flot samples, but only one has large amounts of fish. Weathering consistently medium, moderate amounts of low and quite high-temperature burning. Some digestion. Not a lot of identifiable long bones, very few vertebrae, and fewer foot and head fragments than had been noticed in the upper layers of the same midden. A moderate amount of rib. Many very broken-up long bone shaft splinters, mostly from 003 animals, but also a higher proportion of 007 long bone splinters than above. Several fragments from multiple very young animals. Some flotation bone was pulled from another material and arrived with no flotation or sample number and were recorded for diagnostics only. Within this there was a mandible of a caprine with a series of cut marks probably from skinning. More material arrived November 2000: O/C carpal and tarsal and some scrap. Does not change understanding of unit. [sm] Last number = 875Figurine Records: Yes
