Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.

Unit description: Bone is entirely from >4mm flotation sample no. 2, which was 100% sorted and recorded. This is a medium-small unit consisting of mostly highly fragmented burnt bones. It has mostly sheep sized scrap (long bones, ribs, verts, tooth frags, and indeterminate fragments), with some cattle sized also (longbones, ribs, vert, and indeterminate fragments). Diagnostics are mostly very small: a fox tooth, and sheep-sized carpal, malleolus, third phalanx, and tooth. Of cattle-sized there is a single diagnostic(?) - a possible axis. Bone condition: about 95% is burnt, mostly at low temperatures (black and brown). This probably led to high fragmentation, but with burnt bone it is very difficult to see modern breaks (since there is no clean lighter coloured edge), so these may well be underrepresented. Surfaces are in relatively good condition most is at stage 2 and 3, although a few are more weathered at stage 4. In sum, the consistent pattern of burning (more dominant than in most units) might suggest that burning occurred in situ, and low temperature burning colours might indicate an open fire? Alternatively, the assemblage may represent the contents of a hearth dumped here, although this is less likely to result in such an even burnt appearance on the bone.
