Unit description: A medium to small unit consisting of flotation sample 2. This is a >4mm flotation sample, 100% sorted and completely recorded. This unit has a variety of taxa: sheep/goat are most frequent but there is also cattle, equid, dog and a fair amount of microfauna, including amphibian. It is not as sheep/goat dominated as other units. There seems to be a fairly even body part distribution for the sheep/goat, but the cattle and equid are represented by one bone each (long bones), and the dog is represented only by a fairly complete right mandible and some phalanges. Fragmentation is not too extensive; there are a good number of small scrap fragments but there are also some large pieces. There are a fair number of burnt bones, although not a lot. A relatively large proportion of the burned bones are calcined, suggesting post-depositional burning. There is a little bit of gnawing and digestion, but the bone is not worked over by carnivores to any large degree. The surface condition of the bones is somewhat variable, with much of the bone being fresh and some rather weathered and cracked. The unit has low integrity, as evidenced by the range of surface conditions and presence of bits of so many different taxa. Seems to be from a fill, with most things apparently redeposited.
