Unit 4894
Category: layer dug in 1999
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Packing/ fill,Surface/ repair
Data Category Information: Location: feature; Description: bin; Material: mixed; Deposition: multiple
Dimensions: 0.75 x 0.45 x 0.06
Discussion: Mixed deposit of plastery lenses and darker fill-basal fill within bin F 520. It represents either packing to support wall. arm 4893, which appears to postdate the plaster surface underying 4894, or a series of casual/ partial replasterings of the bin floor. Subsequent excavation of 4893 showed one patch of floor in north-east running up to the arm while the majority of the plaster (4896) underly (4893). The small patch was photographed and then removed with 4894. However the plastery patches were often lumps rather than distinct layers (see plan). Finds were relatively sparse - a large bone lying towards the base of deposit (but not on the plaster surface below) is shown above, a broken clay ball came from the east end of the bin. The east end of deposit was rather more plastery - and the underlying surface (4896) more discontinuous.
